Meinrad C.Perler

History

Meinrad C.Perler, founder of Agriloro SA has always had a strong connection with agriculture. From a farming family, born and raised in the canton of Fribourg he moved at the age of 25 to Ticino to pursue a different kind of profession. In 1981 he decided to acquire the "Ör Estate," in the municipality of Arzo, thus returning to his roots. The estate is very old and is already mentioned in eighteenth-century documents as one of the most important vineyards in Mendrisiotto.

After its acquisition, the estate began a path of viticultural renewal initially based on the regional viticultural tradition, but then increasingly influenced by the passion for experimentation and innovation that Meinrad C. Perler has acquired over time and to which Reiner Zierock, a German agronomist and researcher who has worked alongside him for several years, made a significant contribution to the winery's viticultural and oenological approach.

A further great leap forward was made in 2002 with the purchase of the "La Prella" estate in Genestrerio, a village near Mendrisio. In both vine cultivation and winemaking, efforts are made to operate as much as possible using natural and respectful methods. Much of the production and almost all of the specialties are aged in barriques. An wine aging cellar in Mendrisio, carved out under the slopes of Monte Generoso, was also purchased in 1989.

Properties

In our estates you can feel the scent of an ancient land, where the traditions and rhythm of nature are still present in every gesture.

Tenimento dell'Ör

The "Tenimento dell’Ör", an ancient winegrowing estate dating back to the 1700s, is located in Arzo, a hillside village in the municipality of Mendrisio.

The magnificant position of the estate facing south and very sunny and windy, make it a privileged place for vine cultivation. The vineyard at an altitude of 460/520m above sea level has an area of 11 hectares, of which 8 are vineyards. The estate is located at the foot of Mount San Giorgio, which is registered as a cultural heritage site by UNESCO due to numerous fossil and archaeological findings.
The vineyard has been completely renovated over the years and today 28 varieties of vines are grown there.

La Prella Winery

Following the move from Arzo to Genestrerio, the company has been able to make a considerable leap forward in terms of rationalisation of production operations, returning to operate in technologically and logistically ideal conditions.

Tenimento La Prella

The estate, rich in history, is located in the hilly part of Genestrerio at an altitude of 350 m above sea level and has an area of 23 hectares of which 12 are vineyards.

Thanks to its geographical location and viticultural peculiarities, the estate has allowed the wine production of Agriloro to achieve an excellent balance. Production on this estate is mainly set on the cultivation of the Merlot grape variety, although with the slow renewal of the vineyards, several complementary varieties are being introduced, such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Gamaret. Chardonnay and Sémillon are also present.
